DGV turns everyday milk sales into financial records, helping more than 15,000 dairy farmers secure formal credit, insurance and productive assets across eight Indian states.
Ragavan Venkatesan
Founder and CEO @ Digivriddhi Technologies Private Limited (DGV)
Milk may generate income daily, but for many of India’s small dairy farmers, they continue to remain excluded from formal financial systems. Without payslips, documented earnings or conventional credit histories, farmers can struggle to qualify for formal loans despite receiving regular payments for their milk.
Many turn instead to informal lenders, where higher interest rates can make it harder to invest in cattle, equipment or improvements to their farms. Insurance presents another obstacle. Without reliable ways to identify and track the earning potential of individual animals, acquiring formal loans to further invest in productivity can be difficult.
DGV found the missing financial record in something farmers were already producing: milk. Its platform converts “milk pouring” data, recorded when farmers supply dairy processors, into evidence of recurring income. Through DGV Money, lenders use this cash flow to assess farmers for collateral-free loans.
DGV Connect then links credit directly to productive purchases. Farmers select cattle or equipment through a digital marketplace, and loans can be sanctioned in as little as 30 minutes after eligibility, biometric and credit checks. Payment goes to the seller once the animal is handed over, creating a clear trail from loan to asset.
DGV Digital Insurance adds protection. Artificial intelligence and muzzle recognition give each bovine a unique digital identity, while digital health certificates support traceability and insurance underwriting. In effect, a cow’s muzzle becomes its biometric record.
Together, the three platforms connect farmers, dairy processors, lenders, sellers and insurers. Revenue from lending and processing fees, marketplace transactions, health certificates and insurance commissions supports the model’s financial sustainability.
Between January 2024 and January 2026, DGV enabled more than 15,000 unique dairy farmers across eight Indian states to access formal financial services, facilitating over INR 80 crore in loan disbursements.
Its integrations with dairy processors have also given the company access to the financial data of one million farmers. Half of the milk suppliers represented in that data are women, creating a significant opportunity to connect more rural women directly with banks, insurers and markets. This figure represents DGV’s potential reach rather than the number already served.
The platform is designed to make borrowing safer on both sides. Linking disbursements to cattle and equipment purchases helps keep loans focused on productive uses, while repayments drawn from milk proceeds create a rhythm aligned with farmers’ actual earnings. For lenders, better visibility over income, assets and repayments can reduce uncertainty. For farmers, each completed transaction can strengthen the financial history behind their next application.
DGV reports that it has reduced its cash burn by 65 per cent while growing revenue by between 5 and 7 per cent month on month, suggesting that wider access need not come at the expense of commercial discipline.
DGV’s immediate goal is to become cash-positive while expanding its network of financial partners. It plans to onboard five banks or non-bank financial companies and fully integrate two lenders across finance, marketplace and insurance services.
Over the next three to five years, DGV aims to expand into two or three markets in Africa and Southeast Asia. It also wants to establish its technology as national infrastructure for bovine identity, digital health certification and livestock finance.
The longer-term ambition is larger than faster lending. It is to make a farmer’s daily work visible, bankable and capable of opening the door to lasting financial security.
Digivriddhi Technologies Private Limited (DGV) is India’s first Integrated Dairy FinTech, InsurTech, and Marketplace platform, serving over 80 million dairy farmers with a core mission to revolutionize access to banking and financial services, marketplace and insurance needs for dairy farmers and dairy micro-enterprises.
