CapitaLand Hope Foundation has invested in education to drive social mobility across Asia, expanding access to learning through long-term partnerships and scalable programmes that build resilient, inclusive communities.
Tony Tan
Executive Director @ CapitaLand Hope Foundation
For two decades, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand Group, has held a simple belief: when we uplift the most vulnerable in our communities, we build a stronger and more resilient future for all. Our work focuses on education, health, and well-being for children, youth, and seniors across the countries where CapitaLand operates. Among our flagship initiatives, the CapitaLand Hope School Programme stands out as a long-term and scalable solution to improve access to quality education and break the cycle of disadvantage.

Why Education Matters for Stewardship
True stewardship extends beyond protecting today’s resources. It is about enabling the potential of future generations. In underserved communities across China, India, Singapore and Vietnam, limited access to basic education can entrench social inequality. By strengthening foundational learning environments and supporting skills development, we help youths build pathways to employability, dignity, and social mobility.
This vision aligns deeply with CHF’s purpose to contribute to resilient and thriving communities by investing in the well-being and development of the people who live in them.
The CapitaLand Hope School Programme: A Long-Term Commitment
Launched twenty years ago, the CapitaLand Hope School Programme has evolved into a multi-stakeholder initiative. We partner governments, non-profit organisations, and local communities to:
● Provide safe and conducive school environments through infrastructure development;
● Improve access to basic education for underserved children;
● Support students’ academic progression from primary school to university; and
● Introduce skill-building opportunities through scholarships, bursaries, and innovative learning programmes.
Our approach reflects the essence of steward leadership: we design interventions that endure and evolve to meet the changing needs of our communities.

Since the CapitaLand Hope School Programme began, it has expanded in both reach and depth, delivering key outcomes and lasting impact across underserved communities with the refurbishment of 34 CapitaLand Hope Schools, benefiting more than 30,000 children across underserved communities. To date, over 3,000 scholarships have been awarded, and more than 15,000 students have received essential schooling materials.
My First Schoolbag initiative launched in 2010 to provide schooling essentials to children entering rural Hope Schools in China.
Future Plans: Scaling Impact Sustainably
Looking ahead, CHF is focused on scale, replicability, and long-term resilience.
Our goal is to be a catalyst for a resilient future by building caring and inclusive communities where CapitaLand operates, through:
As CapitaLand strengthens partnerships with non-profit organisations to build more resilient and self-sustaining communities, it leverages its ecosystem, networks, and expertise to enhance programme delivery. These efforts are underpinned by long-term financial sustainability through CapitaLand’s ongoing commitment, which is embedded in the Group’s charter.
Education is one of the most powerful tools for change. By nurturing young learners today, we are investing in the leaders, innovators, and stewards of tomorrow.
The CapitaLand Hope School Programme is more than a philanthropic initiative. It is a long-term promise to communities, grounded in partnership, and driven by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
